If your life is not in jeopardy for what you
believe, you’re probably on the wrong side!
“Indeed, all who want
to live a godly life united with the Messiah Yeshua will be persecuted.” (2Tim 3:12)
It is what you actually believe that determines how you walk out your faith,
“but avoid stupid controversies, genealogies,
quarrels and fights about the Torah; because they are worthless and
futile.” (Titus 3:9)

Barbara Gay Hart Sawyer (Tikvah bat Sarah), age 59, graduated from this school of life and went Home to be with her Lord, Savior, and new Bridegroom on December 13, 2008, at Selby Hospital in Marietta. She passed over quietly and painlessly, without fear or trauma, with her husband in loving attendance. She was born in Oakland, California, a daughter of the late Albert and Jane Hill Hart. She graduated from Acalanes High School, Lafayette, California, with the class of 1967 and attended Diablo Valley College.
She was a pastor’s wife and ministry partner, a nutritional consultant, herbalist, iridologist, and aromatherapist. She was also a member of the National Association of Certified Natural Health Professionals and the managing partner of Abundant Life Herb Shop. In addition to her ministry, natural health, and homemaker duties, Barbara also worked part-time as a retail clerk for JoAnn Fabric and Crafts, and had been a seamstress for over 20 years. She attended the Star in the East Messianic Jewish Congregation in Canton, Ohio.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Dr. Rickard L. (“Rick” or “Buzz”) Sawyer (Ari ben Levi); one son, Aaron Paul Sawyer of Kettering, Ohio; two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Scott and Carol Ann Downing, both of Lincoln, Nebraska; one brother William “Bill” Hart of Clayton, California; and two grandchildren, Joshua Caleb and Elizabeth Ruth Sawyer.
Memorial services were held at 7:00 pm on Wednesday December 17, 2008, at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, West Virginia, with Messianic Rabbi Michael Oyler officiating. The family received friends the hour prior to services (6:00 pm) at the funeral home.

A Woman of Virtue |
||
Who can find a capable wife? She works to bring him good, not harm, She is like those merchant vessels, She considers a field, then buys it, She sees that her business affairs go well; She reaches out to embrace the poor |
She makes her own quilts; She makes linen garments and sells them; When she opens her mouth, she speaks wisely; Her children arise; they make her happy; Charm can lie, beauty can vanish, |
For we know that if the earthly tent which
is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house
not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this
house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven,
inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. For indeed
while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not
want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be
swallowed up by life.
Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God,
who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge. Therefore, being always of good
courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent
from the Lord — for we walk by faith, not by sight — we are of good
courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be
at home with the Lord.
— 2 Corinthians 5:1-8

The Mourner’s Kaddish
Sanctifying the Name of God
[
Click for a printer-friendly PDF version with more info]
The Kaddish is an ancient prayer of praise, written in Aramaic, that expresses a longing for the establishment of God’s kingdom on earth. Originally recited by rabbis when they had finished giving their sermons (the Rabbi’s Kaddish), in time the prayer was modified and became associated with mourning.
The words of the Kaddish provide lasting comfort by stressing the greatness and sovereignty of God — even in the most harrowing of life circumstances. The word kaddish means sanctification, referring to the hallowing of God's Name (Kiddush haShem). Tradition requires that Kaddish be recited during the first eleven months following the death of a loved one and thereafter on each anniversary of the death (called the Yahrtzeit).
In the following, the words enclosed in brackets are recited by the congregation, not by the person(s) reciting Kaddish.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Barbara
Sawyer. I had the privilege to work along side Rick and he spoke of her
often. She meant the world to him. I had the opportunity to speak to her a
few times but through Rick is how I know that she was a wonderful person
and she will be dearly missed.....until you all see her again. And you
will. God Bless.
~ Serina and Shane Modesitt

Buzz & Aaron, How sad I was to hear of Barbara's passing. She was a
delightful friend and family member. My family has many wonderful
memories. She will be dearly missed. My thoughts are with you all.

As a frequent customer of JoAnn's, I always received and very warm and
friendly welcome from Barb. We had many conversations over the economy,
religion, the West Coast and, of course, sewing. I will miss her. I always
tell my friends JoAnn's is my "happy place" and Barbara made all the more
special. She is in my prayers. I am sorry for your loss.
~ Beth Fichtelman
Buzz, Dennis's and my prayers are with you. Barb will be greatly
missed. One of our true friends of many years who we could count on for a
laugh, smile, joke, and love. We love you Buzz.
~ Barbara O'Malley

We are very saddened to hear of Barbara's death. We know that we will
see her again someday with a spiritual new body that's really going to be
healthy and vibrant. We love you very much Rick! We look forward to seeing
you again. Please come up to the Star in The East again whenever you feel
like visiting.
With much Brotherly love,

I was so sorry to hear of Barbara's passing. I worked with her at the
YWCA and she was just a pleasure to be with everyday with the children. As
a matter of fact, the house you two bought was the one I was renting and
suggested to Barbara to rent when me and my roommate moved out. She was so
good to me and made working at the YWCA fun and she loved the children so.
She will be sadly missed and my prayers go out to you and your family.
~ Kisha Frierson, Vero Beach, FL

comfort in memories and prayer.
~ Tom Perdue (Class of 1963)
My heart still aches in sadness,
My silent tears still flow,
For what it meant to lose you Sister
No one will ever know.
We shared so many memories,
as the years flew by,
why were you taken from us,
I now must wonder why.
I'll hold you close,
dear to my heart you are a priceless treasure,
That special person in my life,
A sister is forever.
~ Jil Estes
Ruthie and I send our Condolences to You, Rick, and the rest of the

see you when you could make it to the Congregation on Shabbats. We enjoyed
when you stayed with us. Yahweh Bless you and keep you, and make His face
shine upon you, and give you Shalom. We love you Rick

I was so sorry to read of Barb's passing. We worked together in the
1990's at the Parkersburg YWCA Child Development Center where she was "the
life of the party." She was kind to the children under her care and so
much fun to work with. I sure missed her after I moved to the East Coast.
Please accept my condolences on your loss. Sincerely,
~ Fran Miller, Bear, Delaware
Rick, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Our thoughts and prayers
are with you. If you need anything please let us know.
~ Jon Hammond
We are so thankful that Barb had a close relationship with her Savior.
We will never forget the days in Camino when you both ministered to and
met our deepest needs as we struggled through some very difficult days.
Nor will I (Cindy) ever forget the fun times that Barb and I had as she
cared for me (and my family) for many weeks as I recovered from a surgery!
We shared many belly laughs over silly cards in those weeks. It was the
Sawyers who taught us how to cook with a WOK!! We enjoyed many meals
together. Although our paths took us in different directions
geographically and we lived thousands of miles apart, our hearts and souls
were connected deeply. We are thrilled that she is experiencing the joys
of Heaven. Our prayers are with you Buzz, Aaron (& family) and the
extended family as you grieve Barb's home-going.
~ Tad & Cindy Aldrich
I was both sad and happy to see the news of Barbara's passing. I will
miss seeing her at Joann's. She was a great clerk and we had some really
interesting conversations concerning her Messianic beliefs. But I am happy
that she is with the Lord Jesus and has a brand new body! She will surely
have a "good and faithful servant" star in her crown for sharing her
faith! She was an inspiration to me. May Messiah Yahshua comfort your
family until you see Barbara again.
~ Carol Battin
Rick, I am sorry you lost Barbara. She has always been in my thoughts
and prayers. Rick and I will continue to keep you in our prayers. Please
accept our deepest sympathies.
~ Sue Blank
My heart goes out to you and my prayers
to Father. May His spirit come upon you and help comfort you all.
~ Kristina Snyder
